Restoration Youth Network Sympathizes with flood victims and Compliments the Effort of Bayelsa State Government.



On the 10th of October,2012, the Restoration Youth Network headed by the DG, Comrade Asari Kerry accompanied by a team of doctors , embarked on a field trip to Samson Siasia Stadium, Sampou, Kaiama and Odi to Sympathize with flood victims and to gain first hand Knowledge of primary needs of flood victims in bayelsa state as a way of complimenting Governments Effort.

The first port of call by Reynet and its team of doctors was the samson siasia stadium, which was announced by the Bayelsa State Government as one of the Primary Evacuation Sites was lacking in terms of coordination of relief materials. Reynet noticed a disconnect in terms of communication between the flood refugees and the Reps of Government as complaints were ranging from lack of mobile toilets, bathing area, mattresses, toiletries, food etc.

The DG Asari Kerry said, government in partnership with NEMA and other NGOs like REYNET was doing everything possible to provide succor for victims of this natural disaster as the lives of its citizens was paramount and would spare no effort in making sure its citizens were rehabilitated.

while commending the efforts of Government and its Representatives so far, Reynet with the help if its doctors immediately swung into action and collated data of sick persons in camp with the aim of providing drugs as part of its intended relief materials to compliment Governments Efforts for flood victims.

Reynet also visited the Igbogene refugee camp and spoke to the head of operations NEMA who said bayelsa state government had acquired thousands of tents,mattresses,mosquito nets and relief materials for displaced flood victims with mobile ambulances positioned to administer drugs free of charge to those sick. The NEMA boss stated the need to strengthen the Red-cross (bayelsa state chapter) as it was presently weak and lacked the necessary where withal in terms of emergency situations and evacuation of victim in any given situation.

Reynet also visited Kaiama, Sampou and Odi refugee camps and met with their various government Representatives who in turn welcomed the Reynet team. The DG emphasized on the need to ensure relief materials meant for flood victims were not Siphoned by unscrupulous politicians as the governor of bayelsa state, Hon seriake Henry Dickson had warned all government Reps not to play politics with the lives of its citizens in this trying time.

He further called on all NGOs within and outside the state to join hands to alleviate the sufferings of all those affected by this national tragedy. Reynet also compiled a data of those in need of medical assistance at the aforementioned LGAs.
